Solid or engineered parquet blocks
The best wooden floor is not only the one that has the cheapest price, but it is also very important to determine the quality of the floor, the conditions of use and installation. Solid wood floors have a great tradition in the world. They are usually wooden planks that are 19 millimetres thick, although, in the market, you can find some thinner ones.
This type of floors is the best known for the fact that it is made entirely of solid wood and therefore, it is possible to do as many floor sanding rounds as its thickness allows. An important feature when considering the purchase of a solid wood floor is the fact that it expands and contracts with changes in the relative humidity of the rooms where they are placed.
There are many different hardwood floors, however, the most popular types of timber for wooden flooring are oak and pine. They are both relatively easy to maintain and restore on site so that the sealant is refreshed, turning the floor into a unique piece. There are also pre-finished floors coming with varnish or oil sealant on top.
Engineered parquet blocks or floors have been designed at a relatively recent time to precisely respond to the need to decrease the natural movement of wood. It is a floor that is composed of different layers. The typical thickness of the upper layer can vary between 3 and 6 mm.
The layers below consist of plywood, which is a board made with thin sheets of pine wood glued with the fibers placed one above the other and adhered with synthetic resins by pressure and heat. This design notably decreases the changes of the wood that are given by the relative humidity of the rooms, which makes it a very stable floor, specially designed for rooms that have radial heating.
The engineered parquet floor is stuck on the cement floor if it is very well leveled or on a plywood bed. This gluing is done with a technological last generation adhesive which makes the floor practically impossible to separate. Its cleanliness and ease of installation is another attribute to consider, in addition to the adhesive to dry is like a flexible rubber that allows different pressures and prevents grinding or breakage of the wood.
Another benefit that engineered parquet has is its factory varnishing, which protects the wood from wear by its use. An engineered parquet can withstand several sandings if the maintenance is done in time and properly.
