  Sanding stairs and banisters is not an easy task and it requires high level skills and craftmanship. Most of the work involved is done manually and therefore it is very time consuming. We at FloorWorks would love to assist you with your stairs and banisters restoration as we have the required tools and the necessary skills and knowledge to bring their shine back. Stairs are usually exposed to higher levels of foot traffic, so hardwearing varnish is the recommended type of sealant.

• Can I stain my wooden stairs?

  It is perfectly fine to do staining on any solid wood areas, including wooden stairs. For our wooden stairs staining and stairs restoration projects, we use Morrells stains, which come in various shades and colours, which we apply on the sanded surface. This is then followed by the application of multiple layers of hard-wearing water-based wood floor varnish.

• Dog urine stains removal from an oak engineered flooring

  Urine stains on timber floors can be particularly challenging to remove. Ideally, the stains should be cleaned up immediately, as it's not just the liquid but the compounds in the urine that cause discoloration. Unfortunately, urine tends to penetrate deep into the wood. So, restoration (floor sanding & refinishing) will not be an option in this case.

  The best solution is often to replace the affected planks. Going with the option for the local replacement of planks is the best approach for the floor repairs, however, this requires having spare planks that match your existing flooring. • How many coats of oil are included in your service?

  Our sanding and oiling service includes 2 coats of clear hardwax-oil or 1 coat of colour oil followed by 1 coat of clear oil.

  Depending on the timber species and its specific requirements, we can occasionally increase the number of coats to ensure optimal protection and finish.

• What qualifications do your floor sanding specialists have?

  All our Floorworks™ technicians are carefully vetted to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and professionalism.

  To join our network of flooring specialists, they must demonstrate extensive experience, expertise, and skill in floor restoration. This includes a deep understanding of the floor finishes we use, proficiency with our advanced sanding equipment, and knowledge of various timber species. • How many coats of lacquer are included in your service?

  For domestic floor sanding services, we apply 1 coat of primer followed by 2 coats of lacquer. You can choose from the available sheen options, which are extra-matt, matt, satin, and gloss.

  For floor sanding in public spaces (offices, schools, church halls), we use 1 coat of primer and 3 coats of high quality commercial-grade lacquer. Sheen options available are extra-matt, matt, and satin.

  Extra coats are available upon request, but we do not recommend more than 5 coats, including primer.
