• Dog urine stains removal from an oak engineered flooring

  Urine stains on timber floors can be particularly challenging to remove. Ideally, the stains should be cleaned up immediately, as it's not just the liquid but the compounds in the urine that cause discoloration. Unfortunately, urine tends to penetrate deep into the wood. So, restoration (floor sanding & refinishing) will not be an option in this case.

  The best solution is often to replace the affected planks. Going with the option for the local replacement of planks is the best approach for the floor repairs, however, this requires having spare planks that match your existing flooring. We are able to supply additional reclaimed parquet blocks, matching the size of your flooring and use them to re-stich the parquet flooring once the fireplace heart is removed.  After the floor extension, a complete sanding and re-varnishing will provide a beautiful and new look to your parquet flooring and there will be no trace of the fireplace heart.

• Can an engineered wood flooring with underfloor heating be restored?

  Hi Tom,

  Yes, any engineered wood flooring can be sanded with or without underfloor heating, as long as the thickness of the top layer of the product is at least 3 mm.

  Engineered flooring products are manufcatured in thickness of 14-15 mm, 18 mm and 20 mm. Each time the floor is sanded, a small portion of the top layer is removed, so if the top layer becomes too thin, further sanding could compromise the integrity of the floor and potentially expose the underlying material. If you can check the thickness of your plank, you will also know how many times the floors can be sanded.

• Is the floor restoration process noisy?

  Yes, the floor restoration process, particularly the sanding phase, is inherently noisy. Professional floor sanding machines, especially drum sanders used for the initial heavy-duty work, operate at high decibel levels, often comparable to heavy traffic or industrial machinery (around 85-90 dB). While modern dust-free sanding systems significantly reduce airborne dust, they do not eliminate noise. The noise intensity can vary throughout the process, being loudest during initial coarse sanding and becoming somewhat quieter with finer grits. It's advisable to make arrangements for pets and sensitive individuals, and potentially notify neighbours.

• Can you extend existing flooring over a fireplace hearth?
