• Do you offer restoration of stairs and banisters?

  Sanding stairs and banisters is not an easy task and it requires a high level of skills and craftmanship. Most of the work involved is done manually and therefore it is very time consuming. • What is the best finish for parquet flooring?

  Parquet flooring can be sealed with both lacquer or hardwax-oil. There are some advantages and disadvantages to both that you need to be aware in order to make an informed decision. The most appropriate product usually depends on the type of flooring and the intensity of its use as well as the desired appearance effect.

  For floors exposed to high level of foot traffic, we always recommend floor laqcuer as they provide better protection layer. For our floor sanding projects we always use water-based lacquers such as Bona Mega or Bona Traffic HD, Junchers HT700, which are hard-wearing and long-lasting finishes.

  Alternatively, oil-based wood finishes provide a more natural feel and appearance, but they require more frequent maintenance in order to maintain the protection of the timber. We recommend Osmo Polyx hardwax-oil, which is a popular choice for our dust-free parquet restoration service.

  Whether you choose hardwearing laquer or oil-based sealant for your floors, make sure that you give it a good and smooth finish before the sealant is applied.

• Can you repair blobs on my recently varnished wooden floors?

  The appearance of blobs may be a result of not sufficient and perfect bonding between the different coats of varnish or between the first coat of floor varnish and the timber. This sometimes happens if the floors had not been perfectly sanded to a very smooth finish before the application of varnish or when the previous sealant was not completely sanded down before the new varnish was applied. The only solution we would recommend is to re-sand and re-varnish the floors again to ensure a smooth sanded surface and a proper application of the coats of varnish on top, ideally done by a professional flooring company to avoid this happening again. However, you need to ensure that your floors have sufficient remaining solid wood top layer available for another sanding.

  Yes, we can supply matching blocks for most solid and engineered herringbone flooring. Usually after herringbone floor repairs, the floors may need to be sanded, gap filled and re-sealed for achieving uniform appearance to the floor.

• What is the lead time for your floor sanding services?

  Lead times can vary, but usually we accommodate works within 2 weeks even in the summer when there is higher demand for the service. We do get cancellations and availability can be random, best is to check with member of the team if your floor restoration works are urgent.

• How many coats of oil are included in your service?

  Our sanding and oiling service includes 2 coats of clear hardwax-oil or 1 coat of colour oil followed by 1 coat of clear oil. Ocassionally we can increase the number of coats depending on the timber species we are sealing.
