• Dog urine stains removal from an oak engineered flooring

  Urine stains on timber floors can be particularly challenging to remove. Ideally, the stains should be cleaned up immediately, as it's not just the liquid but the compounds in the urine that cause discoloration. Unfortunately, urine tends to penetrate deep into the wood. So, restoration (floor sanding & refinishing) will not be an option in this case.

  The best solution is often to replace the affected planks. Going with the option for the local replacement of planks is the best approach for the floor repairs, however, this requires having spare planks that match your existing flooring. If that's the case, please let us know and we can arrange a free site visit, to see how we can help with this.

• Do you sand bamboo flooring?

  While bamboo (as final product) is not exactly timber, it is possible to sand and varnish bamboo flooring. However, bamboo floor sanding needs to be done with extreme care and it requires a specific approach and highly skillful flooring technicians. We will not recommend sanding and varnishing bamboo flooring yourself.  Bamboo floor sealing, for example, requires the application of solvent based, rather than water-based sealants. Also, wood floor staining is not recommended on bamboo floors.

• Do you use reclaimed parquet blocks for removing & extending fireplace hearths?

  Fireplace hearth removal and extension with reclaimed parquet blocks is one of our regular services accompanying parquet floor repairs and renovations. We are able to supply additional reclaimed parquet blocks, matching the size of your flooring and use them to re-stich the parquet flooring once the fireplace heart is removed.  After the floor extension, a complete sanding and re-varnishing will provide a beautiful and new look to your parquet flooring and there will be no trace of the fireplace heart.

• What is the lead time for your floor sanding services?

  Lead times can vary, but usually we accommodate works within 2 weeks even in the summer when there is higher demand for the service. However, we do occasionally receive cancellations, so availability can be more flexible than initially anticipated. If your floor restoration works are urgent, we recommend checking with a member of our team to explore the possibility of an earlier appointment.

• How long does it take before the floors can be used again after the sanding service?

  During the restoration service, the floors can handle light traffic without disrupting the process.

  During the sealing process, the floors can be walked on between coats. After the final coat is applied, lacquered floors can accommodate foot traffic in 2 hours, while hardwax-oil floors require 5-10 hours. Drying times can vary depending on air humidity and the season.

  Furniture should be moved back into place the following day.

• How many coats of oil are included in your service?

  Our sanding and oiling service includes 2 coats of clear hardwax-oil or 1 coat of colour oil followed by 1 coat of clear oil.

  Depending on the timber species and its specific requirements, we can occasionally increase the number of coats to ensure optimal protection and finish.
