Before the works
This beautiful teak parquet flooring previously restored decades ago, has lost its lustre and the appealing touch to the interior of these offices in Kings College Hospital in London.
The goal of our team was to deliver a first class floor sanding service, to a number of offices in out of hours time.
The floors went through some minor parquet floor repairs, gap filling throughout and application of commercial grade lacquer in matt sheen.
How we did it...
Teak parquet flooring like all exotic woods, requires excellent surface preparation prior to sealing with a special solvent based primer, which brings out the beaituful brown colour of the wood.
After the initial coarse sanding, which strips and levels the floors to prepare them for next stages, the floors are gap filled and left overnight for the filler to settle within the gaps of the blocks.
If needed on following day, the floors are gap filled once again.
Finer sanding will remove the excess of the filler and prepare the surface for buffing of the floors, prior to application of a coat of Junckers Base Prime. This solvent based primer adds the deep brown cane sugar colour of the teak and makes it possible to apply coats of lacquer without causing roller mark streaks.
The floors have been further sealed with Bona Traffic HD lacquer in matt sheen.
Did you know this about merbau flooring?
Merbau has dark rich red colour and sometimes, our clients will ask us to whiten it or "bleach" the merbau floors. We do not do that, to merbau. We tried it, but it's stubborn and we recommend to keep you merbau floors in the natural colour domain.
