Before the works

The large carpeted area in this 5 star London hotel, would need a new desk station, which has to be positioned over brand new oak parquet flooring, finished in dark mahogany colour and sealed with Bona Traffic Matt lacquer.

How we did it...

To make this project reality our team had to reduce the limestone subfloor with approx. 10 mm and install a curved brass profile, which is bended around the perimeter as requested by the hotel's designers.

The new subfloor was leveled with two-component high-performance smoothing compound and the new parquet flooring was laid with single border around following the curve of the bended brass profile on the perimeter.

The parquet flooring product selected for this installation was a 15 mm prime oak block, to keep the level as low as possible and provide a good sandable depth.

As most of the parquet flooring in this hotel, the floors were finished with dark mahogany colour and sealed with Bona Traffic Matt lacquer.

Did you know this about oak flooring?

Oak wood is a durable and strong hardwood timber known for its distinct grain patterns and wide range of colors, from light brown to reddish tones. It has a coarse texture with prominent grain markings, making it a popular choice for furniture, flooring, cabinetry, and structural applications. Oak is highly resistant to wear, moisture, and insect damage, offering long-lasting durability. It takes staining in dark, light, greys and whites well, with lacquer and oil-based finishes. Another reason that makes it the most popular timber for wooden flooring offering versatility in both traditional and contemporary designs.
